Flownetix wins a 2006 IET Innovation Award

Thursday 12th October 2006

Flownetix is pleased to announce that the company has won the IET Innovation in Engineering Award 2006 for its Low Cost, Low Power Non Moving Part Consumer Water Meter Products, the Flownetix 300series, in the Control, Instrumentation and Robotics category.

The judges commented that "this entry demonstrated a strongly innovative approach which transfers an established industrial measurement technique to a high volume 'consumer' application. Water management is an increasingly important societal issue and this development promises a means of straightforward and acceptable metering as a result of improved accuracy and reliability. Significant novelty is demonstrated in the use of a robust instrumentation technique in a cost and power-sensitive application. The product has markets worldwide and there is significant opportunity for business development."

The IET Innovation in Engineering Awards recognises and celebrates excellence in engineering innovation across a range of industry sectors and engineering disciplines. Winners were selected from hundreds of entries from around the world by a distinguished panel of judges.

The prestigious global awards were presented at a special ceremony at the IET’s London HQ, Savoy Place, hosted by TV personality Adam Hart-Davis.

The awards have been supported by the Department of Trade and Industry. Lord Sainsbury of Turville, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Science and Innovation at the DTI attended the awards.

About Flownetix

Flownetix Limited was formed in 2002 as a spin-off company from the design company Univations Limited with the purpose of specialising in the design and development of low cost ultrasonic flowmeters for a wide range of applications.

The senior management team has a wealth of experience in instrumentation and the potable water industry and were responsible for developing the technology for the highly successful 100 series low cost ultrasonic flow meter. This led to the company being awarded a Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Smart Award in 2002 to continue to develop the product which has resulted in the development of a whole range of flowmeters. The 300 series, which is now setting the industry standard for low cost, high performance ultrasonic consumer water meters, was released in 2005.

All product design, development, software engineering and pilot manufacturing is carried out in the company's laboratories located at their headquarters building in Marlow, England. Keeping everything under one roof has allowed Flownetix to ensure that all aspects of the product's development cycle have been fully integrated and optimised to deliver a product fully fit for purpose at excellent cost with no compromise in quality or performance.

Large scale production takes place in an ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 accredited factory which has the capacity to produce over 1 million units per year.
